Crater Lake, Oregon
Crater Lake is one of the 10 deepest lakes in the world. It’s just up the road from our home in southern Oregon and a favorite place to take visitors. The lodge has quite reasonable and tasty fare, too, which is where this photo of Nancy was taken.
Catarata Falls, near Fortuna, Costa Rica
There’s a great hike (allow a half day, mostly to just feel the spray when you get there!) to this waterfall, just a bit east of the Arenal volcano in Costa Rica
Nancy jumped out of our rental car to to snap this photo of topiary arches enroute to the Arenal volcano in Costa Rica. The soda (café) across the street is where I was introduced to the delicious flavor of guanabana (in the form of a milkshake.)
The Great Pyramid and Sphinx, at Giza, Egypt
The last of the seven wonders of the world, this amazing structure integrates mathematical proportions of phi and pi, as well as an astronomically large number of "coincidences" and other properties.
Lake Atitlán, Guatemala
Lake Atitlán is surrounded by volcanic peaks and is considered to be among the three most beautiful lakes in the world (including Lake Tahoe and Lake Como, according to our tour guide. I couldn’t disagree with that, particularly from the vantage of the lush greenery of the Hotel Atitlán. The zipline ride (with a full view of the lake) zigzags back and forth past a cascading waterfall on a coffee-laden hillside behind the hotel.
Lake Wakatipu, South Island, New Zealand
We took this photo an hours drive or so from Queenstown, on the South Island of New Zealand, with the Southern Alps in the background. It was quite obvious to us why this scenery was used as a backdrop for the Lord of the Rings movie series. The whole country (both islands) is rather spectacular and the people wonderful, too!
